Welcome to the YA Scavenger Hunt! This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive material from their favorite authors . . . and a chance to win awesome prizes! On this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize—one lucky winner will receive one book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 120 hours!

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are FOUR contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the RED TEAM—but there is also a blue team, a gold team, and a purple team. Each team gives you the chance to win a whole different set of books!

If you'd like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page.

And don’t forget to enter my personal giveaway at the bottom of the page—I’m giving away a signed ARC of my next novel (co-written with Valynne Maetani), SEVEN DEADLY SHADOWS, along with finished paperback copies of SHUTTER and PITCH DARK . . . just in time for Halloween!

Have fun hunting, lovelies!

I’m hosting Shannon Thompson for the YA Scavenger Hunt! Shannon A. Thompson is a young adult author, avid reader, and a habitual chatterbox.

Thompson is represented by Katelyn Uplinger at D4EO Literary Agency. Looking for other fun facts? She is a SCBWI member in the KS/MO region. During the day, she works as The Story Center Program Manager for the Mid-Continent Public Library, the largest library in the Kansas City metro, and she loves her job. During the night, she writes about monsters and mayhem. Thompson enjoys K-dramas and baking cookies at midnight. She is also a cat lady of two gremlins. Between writing and befriending cats, she graduated from the University of Kansas with a bachelor’s degree in English with an emphasis on creative writing, and she travels whenever the road calls.

Two eternities. One ending.

The moment Eric and Jessica are reunited, they are torn apart. After the appearance of a new breed of shades and lights, the powers shift for the worse, and all three descendants find themselves face-to-face in the Light realm. When Darthon is in control, the last thing everyone expects is to finally hear the truth.

While Jessica learns the reason of her creation, Darthon’s identity is exposed to Eric—and only Eric—and Eric can no longer defend himself. With the eternities of the Light and the Dark resting on Jessica’s shoulders, she must choose who she will be—a light or a shade.

In the end, someone must die, and the end is near.

Took Me Yesterday (Book 2 of The Tomo Trilogy) Preview

I crawled across the floor until I sat inches away from the screen. In an old town square—somewhere we’d never know the location of—government officials collected under sage-green tents embroidered with the State’s symbol, a single sunflower. In my sixteen years, I hadn’t thought much of the symbol. Originally, it was the symbol for Kansas, the location of the Topeka Region—also the capital of the State—and it was seen as patronage to the old country. It wasn’t until I met Noah that I realized how much of it was a lie. We weren’t even in Kansas. We were somewhere in Missouri. That was all I had managed to learn.

I ignored the flower tents that led up to the stage up front, with nothing but a white curtain as a backdrop. Rumor had it that Broden would be shot. The backdrop would highlight it.

“I don’t want to watch,” Lily said, inching up behind me.

“No one wants to watch it. But we have to. For him.”

She didn’t argue again, not even when Wheston Phelps himself walked out onto the stage. It’d been a strange life knowing the man, both as my dad’s employer, my life dictator, and now, my friend’s killer. I still remembered his smile, unusually bright against his weathered skin, but tonight, even in the storm, he looked refreshed. Normally, he looked this way after tea. Mint tea to be exact. I knew too many personal details about him, and not nearly enough about my own country.

“Ladies and gentlemen of the State”—when he spoke, his voice sounded borderline friendly, like that uncle you always looked forward to seeing on the holidays—“we are deeply saddened for all the loss this fine country has seen these past few weeks, but as long as we stand together, we find hope in the gravest of moments. We must even find hope in this young man.”

Broden. The white curtains parted, and there he was, dragged by his tied-up hands, a single bag over his head.

Lily grabbed ahold of my hand, and I would’ve dropped my grasp if she hadn’t squeezed my bones together. “Sophia . . .”

I shushed her to hear the rest of the speech, all the while watching as they forced Broden to his knees. My heart hurt as his heart neared its last beats.

“We restore the life of the State—as well as this young man’s life—by standing together today as equals, to face fair punishment under the law of the six regions and the State, the same laws we must uphold to remain free.”

I shushed her again, over and over, and strained to listen and watch as a sheriff of the State stepped onto the stage, right in front of Broden, right behind Phelps. Broden didn’t even struggle, but his head moved from side to side as if he were searching blind. I wanted to tell him it was okay. I wanted to tell him we’d get him out of there. I wanted to tell him so many things. But I couldn’t. I’d never get the chance to.

The sheriff lifted the pistol at the same Phelps raised his voice . . .
